A3M was invited to explain to the guests at this conference how the manufacturers gathered within our federation were organizing their decarbonization.

Maxime Lazard - Deputy Director General - after a brief reminder on A3M, its missions and its objectives, discussed the diversity of the ways of the Decarbonization, linked to the diversity of industrial processes of the companies we represent.

More specifically on the steel industry, the issues are naturally of a very different nature depending on whether we are talking about the cast iron route or the electric furnace route. Beyond the technical aspects and the necessary investments, the presentation highlighted the critical aspects:

➡️ of funding

➡️ OPEX impacts

➡️ access to a scrap in quality and volume in line with our current and future needs

➡️ the need to promote the downstream market

➡️ energy costs and in particular electric

➡️ cost, logistics and prioritization of access to a hydrogen shiso

➡️ the impact of aggressive extra-European competition

At a time when economic and geopolitical insecurity combine with depressed European markets, the challenges of decarbonization require structural choices.

The steel industry, and more broadly the metallurgy, provide an essential part of decarbonization. It is also a major axis of our sovereignty and our to the defenseSupporting our sector is a pillar of our societies.
