French Salts

Sels de France is a trade association that has brought together the main French salt producers (sodium chloride) since 1920. These salt producers manufacture sea salt, rock salt, dissolved salt, and evaporated salt, used in various industries, including chemicals, winter road maintenance, water treatment, agriculture, and food. There is a saying that salt has fourteen thousand uses.

The union currently includes 9 members, originating from 3 specific sectors :

• The production of crystallized salts – the salt that is commonly used –
• The chemical industries, producers of dissolved salt, intended for the manufacture of sodium bicarbonate.
• The third branch concerns underground storage facilities, which store liquid gases and hydrocarbons for the constitution of France's strategic stocks (preservation is total because salt is perfectly impermeable).

There are therefore three categories of use: commercial products, raw materials in chemistry, and co-products from storage activities.
