For 130 years, Saarstahl Rail located in Hayange in France has been a subsidiary of the SHS/Saarstahl group, specializing in production of rails for railway infrastructure. It has a range of more than 100 rail profiles.

Saarstahl Rail plays an important role in the supply of rails for the railway networks in France and around the world.

Main activities 

1. Production of railway rails:
   • Products: Saarstahl Rail specializes in the manufacture of rails for railways. These rails are produced from steel blooms supplied by Saarstahl Ascoval and are processed into rails of various dimensions and specifications (up to 108m) to meet the needs of railway networks.
   • Manufacturing process: The plant uses a universal rolling process to transform blooms into finished rails. This process guarantees high-quality rails.

Heat treatment of the rails allows them to withstand the constraints and loads imposed by heavy trains and metros.

   • Quality standards: The rails are manufactured to strict standards to ensure their durability and performance. The company is committed to providing products that meet the highest safety and reliability requirements for railway infrastructure.

   • Research and development : constantly improve its products and production processes. The objective is to innovate in rail manufacturing to meet new requirements such as; reducing wear problems, contact fatigue, wave wear or corrosion

The "Green Steel" used for the rails is produced in a way that minimizes environmental impact, reducing emissions by up to 70% compared to blast furnace production, thus contributing to greener rail infrastructure.

   • Clients : Saarstahl Rail supplies rails to various customers, including railway companies and rail infrastructure managers (SNCF, Infrabel, RFI, OBB, etc.). The plant is a strategic partner for rail network construction projects in Europe and around the world.
