With a rich history spanning over 150 years as a leading manufacturer of zinc, lead and other metals, Nyrstar is committed to sourcing, extracting and processing metals and other products in a safe, responsible and sustainable manner.
The Auby smelter is a medium-sized electrolytic zinc smelter. It produces cathodes as finished products. Zinc concentrates and zinc by-products are consumed at the plant through the RLE process to produce zinc cathodes.
The Auby smelter produces zinc mainly from zinc concentrates and, to a lesser extent, from recycled secondary zinc.
The Auby smelter produces SHG cathodes and some extra-pure cathodes, the latter of which are sold as battery-grade zinc. The site also produces by-products such as sulfuric acid, Auby leach (a product containing both lead and silver), copper, and indium.
An indium refinery, producing 99,998% pure indium, was commissioned in May 2012.
