I-ROX is developing a new rock crushing technology that aims to drastically reduce energy consumption and associated carbon emissions while increasing the recovery of critical minerals and materials needed for the energy transition.
The three shareholders of I-ROX are currently:
- I-Pulse: world leader in pulsed energy for industry,
- Breakthrough Energy Ventures (BEV): Founded in 2016 by Bill Gates, this investment firm supports innovative technologies that can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions,
- BHP: Founded in the 1800s, the company has grown to become one of the largest and most respected entities in the mining industry, playing a vital role in meeting the global demand for essential resources.
I-ROX uses high pulsed powers (rapid, short pulses of high voltage) to replace centuries-old and highly inefficient mechanical grinding processes. Our revolutionary process uses the science of plasma physics to pass electric arcs through rock, causing it to burst from the inside out using tiny amounts of energy. Through advanced modeling and simulations, I-ROX continues to optimize this process to achieve the best results for our future customers.
Installed since the beginning of January 2025 in its new premises, I-ROX implements laboratory or continuous flow demonstrators at different scales to improve the yields and reliability of the technology.
The research and development team of 25 people, is made up of specialists in pulsed high-power generators and plasma physics, mineralogists and digital scientists.
I-ROX has all the resources necessary to control its activity, in particular the capacity to carry out internal analyses of the material resulting from grinding experiments in a short cycle: granulometry by sieving or laser, electron microscopy and associated software for the automatic analysis of the release of minerals, flotation cells, etc.
