Garrot-Chaillac Group

Garrot-Chaillac is a French, family-run, independent group, led by the founder's granddaughter.

For more than 80 Over the years, the Group has acquired solid experience in open-pit mining.

Today, our mines are located on three continents.

Organization

Garrot-Chaillac is organized around three departments:

• a Mines department: bauxite in France (Hérault), manganese and baryte in Morocco, gold in Guyana
• a Trading department: specializing in dense aggregates (barite, magnetite, etc.)
• a Ballast department: dedicated to ship balancing, certified by major classification societies

Mining expertise

We mine bauxite in mainland France (Hérault), manganese and barite in Morocco, as well as primary and alluvial gold in Guyana.

Chaillac, in Indre, was historically one of the largest French baryte (BaSO4) mines.

Trading in minerals and dense aggregates

The Group's Trading division specializes in natural and artificial dense aggregates (Oxyma®)

These minerals are used for:

• the manufacture of heavy concrete (radiation protection, nuclear, hospitals)
• counterweights (elevators, agricultural and construction machinery)
• In 2024, Garrot-Chaillac supplied 10 tonnes of dense, low-carbon aggregates for the construction of the tunnel under the Scheldt in Belgium, to compensate for hydraulic pressure.

Naval Ballast

Garrot-Chaillac develops a range of solid ballasts and an installation technique optimized for shipyards.

Our solutions are approved by classification societies such as Bureau Veritas, and ensure ideal positioning of the center of gravity of merchant, military or cruise ships.
