GEOLITH has developed an innovative technology for direct lithium extraction to address 3 major industry challenges :

  • Demand for Li is constantly increasing : by enabling the exploitation of hitherto inaccessible resources such as groundwater (geothermal energy, oil production water), GEOLITH helps to promote the emergence of new projects in order to meet the growing demand for lithium linked to the energy transition.
  • Concentration of resources : Li production is currently highly concentrated between South America and Australia. GEOLITH technology makes it possible to exploit resources that were previously unexploitable across a large part of the globe, thereby reducing the risks of dependency.
  • Environmental impact : GEOLITH technology makes it possible to minimize the environmental impact of Li extraction, both in terms of water and energy consumption

The technology named Li-Capt® is offered on an industrial scale by GEOLITH. GEOLITH designs its solutions in the form of columns assembled into modular racks. These racks are combined to achieve the production capacity required by the customer, thus guaranteeing perfect scalability. GEOLITH supports its customers at every stage of their project, from the pre-feasibility study to the final investment decision (FID).

To ensure a gradual scaling up, GEOLITH begins with laboratory studies, followed by pilot tests and demonstration units, before moving on to industrial production. Thanks to its workshop located in Schiltigheim, the company is already capable of producing the first units on an industrial scale.

Li-Capt® technology is based on an ion exchange process, incorporating a patented active material based on LTO, specially designed to optimize lithium extraction.

Thanks to its extreme selectivity, the technology makes it possible to produce a lithium concentrate of high purity, rejecting the vast majority of unwanted ions before the conversion and refining stages, thus limiting costs.

Li-Capt® technology stands out for its high performance on low and medium concentration brines. It enables the extraction of lithium from salt flat brines, deep groundwater (from geothermal energy or oil and gas production), as well as process water from lithium refining or recycling.
