The French public establishment for the applications of Earth sciences

A national geological survey, BRGM (Bureau de recherches géologiques et minières) is the leading public institution in the applications of Earth sciences to manage soil and subsoil resources and risks with a view to sustainable development.

A partner of many public and private stakeholders, BRGM places scientific research, expertise and innovation at the heart of its actions. Its activity meets 4 objectives:

  • understand geological phenomena and associated risks,
  • develop new methodologies and techniques,
  • produce and disseminate data for soil, subsoil and resource management,
  • provide the tools necessary for managing soil, subsoil and resources, preventing risks and pollution, and policies to respond to climate change.
